Control and regulation of intelligent technical systems

Through the use of control technology, technical systems are able to realise complex tasks. The Control Engineering and Mechatronics workgroup develops and applies innovative control concepts that enable technical systems to react intelligently. System-inherent intelligence can be realised, for example, through adaptation strategies or self-optimisation.

Detailed modelling as preparatory work for control and regulation procedures generates in-depth knowledge about the system under investigation. This mathematical formulation enables a broad spectrum of further methods. One possibility, for example, is the optimisation of system behaviour in order to use resources efficiently. Optimisation approaches can be used for the trajectory planning of dynamic systems or in various control systems. Another possibility is the use of learning processes for technical systems to identify recurring external faults, which are then compensated for using suitable approaches. Modern control engineering methods thus make it possible to design the intelligent technical systems of tomorrow.
